Yad Emin started working at Entiros as a UI/UX designer about six months ago – right in the middle of the pandemic. Despite not being able to meet her boss or colleagues in person, she has found a lot of joy in her new job.

Video games inspired an interest in design

Yad, 31, lives in Linköping and loves video games and drinking tea out of really big mugs.

She’s been interested in gaming since she and her brother got an NES as kids and started playing Super Mario. Today she is most drawn to games with a good story, beautiful music, and detailed graphics, like Horizon Zero Dawn and Zelda - Breath of the Wild. She sees her interest in gaming not only as a hobby, but also as a factor that contributed to choosing a career as an UI/UX designer (UI stands for user interface design and UX for user experience).

“Both gaming and design involve creating an experience. And this requires a great deal of creativity from the developers to make it both understandable and fun,” says Yad.

An interest became a career path

Before she started working, Yad studied at Linköping University. She got a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and communication, and then a master’s degree in cognitive science with a focus on interaction design. Shortly after she completed her degree, an ad for a UI/UX designer position at Entiros showed up in her feed.

“During the recruiting phase, Entiros gave me such a good impression of both the position and the company.  Many of their values were in line with my own – openness, transparency, the importance of collaboration, and protecting the environment. So, I really hoped they would offer me the job – which luckily they did!”

Starting a new job remotely

“Entiros has managed and facilitated remote work really well, so I haven’t had any problems with working from home. Even though I haven’t met my boss or my team in person yet, we have good communication through daily video meetings and keeping in touch via Slack. I always know who I should ask if I have a question. We have also had digital team-building activities, and this has made it feel like I’m there in person hanging out and having fun with my colleagues,” says Yad.

Being a part of product development

og-imageIn her role as UI/UX designer, Yad mainly works with design of the company’s SaaS product Entiros Starlify. She works with how the service looks and how users use and understand the service. This requires close collaboration with the developers and good responsiveness to user feedback. In addition to that, she works with design on the company’s website, entiros.se.

“Being able to develop the product and how we communicate about it is very rewarding for me. In a short time, I have learned so much about how important it is that digital services work in a user-friendly way that makes the customer happy. The team spirit that we have makes it so much fun to work and be part of the journey of developing new ideas. This is one of the many reasons that I love my job at Entiros,” says Yad.
